New Baby Picks

Sorry for the late post tonight guys, babies eh? I thought I would share a couple of my 'picks' for new babies. These are things that I have found hugely helpful throughout my time as a new mum and things I will definitely pick up for baby no. 2 (although we aren't thinking about that just yet...!).

First up is the MAM dummies... Now I know some people seem to think dummies are the root of all evil, but when you're breastfeeding and your baby want to sit on your boob 24/7 for comfort dummies can be a lifesaver. My little one sucks his thumb as well, but at least the dummy can be taken away when we've decided it's time to move on. These are the only dummies I've tried that my boy seems to get on with, although he's reached the age now where he can grab it and pull it out of his mouth but can't quite navigate it back in... They're pretty pricey at around £5 for two but they also come with a sterilising box (you chuck a bit of water in the bottom and microwave them for a couple of minutes, easy peasy!) and you can get ones which glow in the dark which are ideal for night time. They're often on offer at Tesco, so keep your eyes peeled if you're in the market for some.

Next up is this NUK bottle cleanser. This stuff is a MUST. They make used bottle sparkling clean in an instant and I'm so impressed with the results. They contain an enzyme which breaks down the milk stains but it washes away instantly. I've already restocked this and buy it online in my Ocado shipping, however you can pick this stuff up at Boots.

Next up is the thermal bottle insulators. I use the Tommee Tippee ones, although I'm sure they're all much of a likeness. These are so handy for when you're out and about, whether you're taking expressed milk or boiled water for formula these are a must in my books.

Next up is a good cot mobile. Archer has mobiles above his co-sleeper, cot and travel cot which is set up in the lounge and he loves staring up at them. Two of them make music and he definitely prefers the musical ones, however by far his favourite is a Fisher Price one, pictured above, which can be bought for £30 here on Amazon. He's quite happy to giggle away in his cot watching this for ages. It also does  white-noise-esque woodland sounds which would be great for aiding sleep if your little one like background sound.

Next up is blankets, blankets, blankets. You can never have enough blankets. I'm constantly washing blankets which have been either spat up on, thrown out of the pram and (occasionally..) even pooed on. A hefty supply is definitely necessary, especially as the winter months draw in.

Finally, baby sleeping bags. I thought these were a bit of a gimmick at first, but I was OH so wrong. These are amazing for wriggly babies who immediately find their way out of their blankets when they're put down. Probably not ideal for moses baskets as they are a bit big for newborns, but ideal for babies who have moved into cribs or cots. I have two Mothercare ones and a Gro-Bag one and, I hate to say it, but the Gro-Bag's are worth the hype and the price tag! They also come with handy guides of which tog for which temperature and how to dress your baby underneath their sleeping bag.

Are there any things you have found amazing for your little ones?

  1. So true about the dummy and breastfeeding! I was so against it until one night where I just couldn't take him demanding my boob constantly when I knew he had fed. They just take the pressure off...and as it is he's not that keen on the dummy anyway but he will take it if need be.

I just started using a sleeping bag a friend gave me and I have to say they are great. I wanted to buy some more and was wondering whether the Grobags were worth the hype. Now I know! Thanks x

    1. I won't go anywhere without a dummy now, despite being very much anti-dummies during my pregnancy (what did I know, ha!)

And yes the Gro-Bag's are great. You can usually pick them up for a few quid in charity shops / eBay / nearly new sales... They are so quick drying and non-fiddly to get your little one in! :) x
